In the coming weeks, Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh will name the city’s next police chief.

It’s a decision nearly a year in the works. It comes on the heels of a rash of child-involved shootings in the city and a verdict blaming two cops for assaulting an innocent man.

Just before taking office in January, Walsh asked Chief Frank Fowler to stay on for a year while he looked for a new chief. Fowler has led the department since 2010.
