The City of Syracuse is scheduled to begin a $2.5 million federally funded sidewalk improvement project on Hiawatha Boulevard on Wednesday, July 15. Construction along Hiawatha Boulevard will be between Van Rensselaer and Solar Streets, over Onondaga Creek. Project improvements will include bridge repairs, sidewalk widening, milling and paving and pavement striping of the road. The completed project will provide a widened walkway along the bridge and will accommodate connections to the Creekwalk.

The section of the Creekwalk along Hiawatha Boulevard, over the bridge, will be closed for the duration of construction. Construction is anticipated to be complete by late November 2020. Traffic delays can be expected, especially during peak hours. Detour signs will be in place to redirect traffic, and alternate routes should be used when possible.
