Below is a statement from Syracuse Chief Administrative Officer Frank Caliva on a mailing sent Friday regarding the City’s parking violation amnesty program:

“The City mailed out 110,000 letters on Friday notifying individuals they may be eligible for penalty and interest amnesty on parking violations. The City’s unpaid violations records include tens of thousands of tickets written over the course of decades. The Parking Violations Bureau strives for its databases to be accurate and cross references with New York State and Department is Motor Vehicles databases to ensure that the correct notice goes to the correct vehicle owner.  Over time, people move, they buy and sell cars, and they change license plates for a variety of reasons. The City Payment Center will work diligently to make corrections, where needed, while also pursuing fines lawfully owed to the City.

People with questions about amnesty letters they have received can check the parking violations database beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8 at syrgov.net/amnesty2020. If there are still questions, contact the City Payment Center by email at Amnesty2020@syrgov.net or by phone at 315-448-8483.”

  1. The amnesty website is a joke. You cannot enter any information to search your ticket. The drop box shows up but you can’t search by plate or name so you are forced to scroll through hundreds of thousands of plate numbers. What a joke!

  2. Ive got one even better i live downstate in NYC and haven’t own a vehicle 20 years..Last vehicle i owned the plates were surrendered to dmv because the vehicle was destroyed during 9/11 But in 2005 It was reincarnated and parked it self on a street in your city.. what a joke Look like there parking people were writing summons on plates that were surrendered Go to NY DMV download mv-15 and request a list of individuals current and previous vehicles registration plate and start from there..I spent 30 years in federal law enforcement this is a complete scam
do not pay any summons until they provide the following information

    copy of summons
    Time and date issued
    Color of vehicle
    Vin # of vehicle
    Plate # on summons
    who issued this summons
request a hard copy or if scanned electronic version if it was scanned you want to see a copy of the scan of the
    registration

DO NOT PAY UNTIL THEY PROVIDE THIS INFORMATION PUT REQUEST IN WRITING

THEY THINK YOU GUILTY UNTIL YOU CAN PROVE YOU NOT THIS IS AMERICA NOT CHINA

    Doesnt work that way…

  3. It would sure be easier to handle this if an actual ticket number was included. I’m sure this was paid within a month of the ticket. It’s nonsense that there isn’t a date for these “tickets” and no ticket number to reference. Would kind of make sense to include this information if you’d like things resolved. This is an absolute joke.

    1. Additional information about the ticket, including the ticket number is available at syrgov.net/amnesty2020. If you are not able to address your concern by reviewing the information in the database, please email the question to amnesty2020@syrgov.net or call (315)448-8483. Call volume is high so email may be more convenient. Thank you.

      1. That’s a joke. Email is more convenient – I’ve emailed twice – took over a week to get a response each time. Also, when trying to address that the vehicle desription is completely off from the vehicle I owned at the time, they agents refuse to address it.

        SCAM

  4. Dear Syracuse City Officials. I received the letter indicating an overdue parking ticket fee, however, I do not have those plates and I do not have any information on the letter that would tell me when and where I was supposedly parked.. How can I understand if this is bonafide; and IF I were to pay it,as a donation to the city of Syracuse, I still need vital information to do so.. I have no idea how without the aforementioned information. Furthermore; I am a person who pays my obligations as soon as I get them, and especially because I reside in Binghamton and not Syracuse, so I would have mailed it that day or the next. Please email me with the date and place this infraction occurred, and I will decide if it is indeed something I need to take care of. Thank you.

  5. This is a crock – a parking ticket from 2003 on a residential street – that I’m sure was paid. Here’s my $20 donation to the city budget, Mayor Walsh

  6. License Plate # Y5T693 does not belong to me. Please cancel my parking ticket for $20.00, and confirm cancellation.

  7. This is crazy! why can’t we pay by check? It HAS to be a Cashiers check? I did not get a ticket number on this letter so I cannot pay by credit card. And I don’t like having to leave my house just for a cashiers.check.

    1. I moved from Syracuse 15 yrs ago. The amnesty letter has know invoice # or ticket #s.
How can I pay with debt card?

  8. The City of Syracuse got my name and plate number correct but vehicle information isn’t correct. I have never parked my vehicle on ANY Syracuse street including 16 years ago when this ticket was “issued”. Did someone use my plate # on their vehicle? How do I prove it? Now the City has publsihed 110,000 plate numbers that can possibly be duplicated and used fraudulently. News Channel 9 said they investigated and confirmed these amnesty letters were mailed out, but why are so many people contesting these tickets? Further investigation is obviously needed.

    2. check with NYS DMV MV-15 and get a list of vehicles you registered present and in the past cost is $10
then if your right take the city to small claim court

  9. I checked your site & neither my name or the license plate number on the letter show up. I don’t want to pay 50.00 with the economy the way it is when I’m on disability. How can I verify?

  10. Could someone show me the actual ticket for ticket # 40626Z dated back to Friday October 24,2003.

This is almost 17 years ago i want to at least confirm you have the right person.
I do NOT believe this is my license Plate from any of my vehicles in the past.

    1. Mr. Stevens, Thank you for taking the time to follow up on this. We recommend these steps: 1) Go to syrgov.net/amnesty2020 and look up additional information about the ticket 2) if that doesn’t answer your question, email the please the question to amnesty2020@syrgov.net or call (315)448-8483. Call volume is high so email may be more convenient. Thank you. Greg Loh, Office of the Mayor

      1. if i have a copy of a dmv plate receipt showing i returned the plate why is that not enough to dismiss the summons

  11. I don’t remember having all these license plates and I need to know when these tickets happen. Please let me know I live in California now. Thank you.

  12. I received a letter regarding two parking tickets in Syracuse from 17 years ago. First, they are from March and April during the work week. I worked Liverpool in the school district during the week in 2003. Secondly, I am afraid to drive downtown by myself, let alone attempt to park. In the third place, there is no way to dispute or challenge a claim from over a decade ago. Lastly, I am the kind of person, as is my husband, who would have paid the tickets in the first place.

    1. I am in the SAME situation. How do we challenge a ticket from 2003 when we can’t even SEE it! And I did not own the type of car that is showing on the ticket that is under my name. I was working during that time as well, and had no reason to park on city streets.

      1. It sounds like you have already looked for additional information in the database and you still have concerns. Please email the question to amnesty2020@syrgov.net or call (315)448-8483. Call volume is high so email may be more convenient. The City Payment Center team is attempting to help address questions. Thank you.

  13. My letter only has plate number. No date or make of car or where in the city. I only park in lots and pay for parking. I also would never destroy a ticket and get in more trouble. Please advise.

  14. Newschannel 9 Your Stories is wrong because this IS a scam. It’s a scam perpetrated by the City of Syracuse. I received one of these letters without any information other than I owed $10. It did not have the date of the alleged ticket and it did not have the alleged ticket number on the notice, but you need the ticket number to pay it on the site that they give in the letter. You can’t look it up by your name. By searching the old Express Pay payment system I was able to find that this ticket supposedly happened 17 years ago. Not only did I not have the ticket, but I am denied my legal right to dispute this, and just like many people are complaining about, the alleged ticket is listed for a license plate that does not belong to my vehicle and is for exactly $10. In the 17 years since this ticket was supposedly issued, I have lived in the same house and have never once received notice that I had any outstanding tickets. I have also had other parking tickets here and there over the 17 years, and nobody ever brought up that I owed for any other parking tickets. Over the last 17 years, Syracuse has had numerous amnesty programs and I have never been notified until now that I owed $10 from 17 years ago. It says that they sent out 110,000 of these letters. Syracuse has a population of 142,000 people. This means that only 30,000 people were excluded from receiving this letter. Were they kids? There is no way that this is legitimate and not a scam. For the last few weeks, Ben Walsh has been crying about how much the city has to cut because of the lack of money, and now this comes out. Mighty fishy to me! It would have been easier if Ben Walsh was honest and asked every man, woman, and child in Syracuse to donate $10.

    1. mr Dolny your right about everything…They refused to provide me any of the information i listed in my above comment. I surrendered my plates to dmv and there still not accepting that..say i cant appeal it because it happen 18 years ago.. I live in nyc was never in city. You city is run by a bunch of clowns Residents need to vote these them out of office..

  15. I received notice to pay a $10 parking ticket fine for license number ADK3349. I don’t have a car with that plate number, please advise.

  16. How did this get away form the mot
er vehicle.you should have not been able to register your vehicle. How can ppl even fight this due to new vehicles new licences and not remembering even when the ticket was issue. This is a little insane on the city’s part. How far back are you going??. And you can’t even check till the 8th. But every one got letters already.i think we should worry about the crime instead of parking tickets. Half the ppl are probably dead that you are looking for.

  17. Seems to me that Syracuse is trying to recover money they lost when everything was shut down. I received a letter but the funny thing is…. I’ve only ever had 2 different license plates and the number on the paper doesn’t match either. I want detailed information on when, where and what vehicle this “parking violation” occured because I have never had one.

    1. Never told me where I suppose of gotten the ticket or even when. When I did receive any tickets I payed for them rite away

  18. I tried to pay the ticket online and via the phone number however, they require an invoice number. this was not included on the original letter that I received last Saturday. I even tried using the tag number and that does not work either. This may be 4-5 years old, or more so if there was a ticket, I don’t have it nor do I have an invoice number. I’m not sure where to go from here and I’m sure a lot of other people are in the same boat.
