Mayor Walsh calls Cumulus Media production “the next best thing to being there”

The first City of Syracuse “Home for the Holidays” virtual Christmas tree lighting program will premiere tonight, Friday, Nov. 27 at 6 p.m. Viewers can tune in online to see the full hour-long special at SyracuseTreeLighting.com and on the City of Syracuse YouTube channel.

This adapted version of the long-standing, in-person holiday tree lighting event, produced in partnership with Cumulus Media, will include performances by national and local acts, clips showcasing Syracuse’s true diversity, tree lighting history and special messages. Mayor Walsh will flip the candy cane switch, lighting up the Christmas tree once more kicking off another holiday season in Clinton Square.

“Syracuse will be proud of this show. It features first rate production value and includes nationally known musical acts, along with local talent,” said Mayor Walsh. “It also highlights our community’s rich diversity including holiday greetings delivered by local residents in more than 15 languages. This program really is the next best thing to being there.”

Featured acts include:

  • Shaed;
  • TrumpTight 315;
  • Victory Temple Youth Choir;
  • Latin/Soul Trombone Player Melissa Gardiner;
  • Syracuse City Ballet;
  • Symphoria Youth Orchestra and more.

The special includes Cumulus Media on-air personalities with city co-host Maria Maldonado-Lewis. Appearances include Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon and Deputy Mayor Sharon Owens, along with hosts Ted and Amy in the Morning from WNTQ; Rick Roberts, Afternoon Drive on 93Q; Marty and Shannon from the Morning Mess; Dixon in the afternoon drive on WAQX; and Dave Frisina, TheRebelRocks.com.

The full show will also be made available through the 93Q, 95X, TheScore 1260 and TheRebelRocks.com websites from Nov. 27 to Dec. 25, and on Ted & Amy’s 2020 Virtual Christmas Spectacular on Saturday, Dec. 19.
