Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh announced the Clinton Square Ice Rink will begin operating with an expansion in skating capacity on Friday, Jan. 22 and will add five additional ice sessions beginning Jan. 29. With approval from New York State, the City of Syracuse Department of Parks, Recreation & Youth Services (Parks & Rec) will now be able to accommodate more than 200 skaters a day.
“For many, winters in Syracuse are synonymous with being able to get on the ice at Clinton Square to skate. The rink has been on high demand this winter with the pandemic limiting other activities for people, so I am glad that we were able to find a way to give more people the opportunity to do so in a safe way, “said Mayor Walsh.
Patrons can now go to Syracuse.recdesk.com to register for upcoming dates beginning on Jan. 29. Parks & Rec added extra sessions by creating some overlap between sessions, ensuring total ice capacity never exceeds state guidance. Staff will be able to safely host patrons and have time to clean between sessions.
