The City of Syracuse Department of Engineering announced the “dig once” infrastructure project on Butternut Street on Syracuse’s north side begins Wednesday, Oct. 27. The start of the long-awaited project was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Work will include “full depth” reconstruction of the road along Butternut Street between Butternut Circle and Hillside Street; including new asphalt pavement, new sidewalks, replacement of water mains and lead water services, and rehabilitation of sewer infrastructure. It will also include a new traffic management plan for the intersection of Butternut Street and Grant Boulevard, as well as beautification of the center green space at the intersection.
Crews working for the City will begin sewer infrastructure work this construction season on Butternut Street between Grant Boulevard and Hillside Street. Traffic will remain open on Butternut Street during the work this fall. The remainder of the underground and road reconstruction work will be completed in the 2022 construction season.
