Mayor Walsh and Deputy Mayor Owens joined County E Mayor Walsh and Deputy Mayor Owens joined County Executive McMahon, Dr. Indu Gupta, Syracuse University Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach Allen Griffin, Rasheeda Caldwell and Pastor DeCarto Draper at Tucker Missionary Baptist Church, today’s pop-up vaccination site. The community leaders shared the importance of taking care of each other and being responsible neighbors in order to beat the coronavirus.

A key component to combating the pandemic and restoring a sense of normalcy throughout our communities comes down to making sure as many people as possible are vaccinated. With many people hesitant to get a shot, the need for people to be informed with the facts and have easy access to sites right in their neighborhoods is essential.

The group encouraged people to talk to their doctors, ask questions, be aware of when they become eligible and make a personal decision to protect themselves and others. As Deputy Mayor Owens, Coach Griffin and Pastor Draper shared their personal stories battling COVID-19, ultimately prevailing, the sentiment among the speakers was clear: each day people remain at risk of being infected is one day too many considering the lives forever changed and even lost because of this deadly pandemic.
