NEIGHBORHOOD DREAM COMING TRUE Pathfinder Bank inv NEIGHBORHOOD DREAM COMING TRUE Pathfinder Bank invited neighbors and community leaders to its new branch under construction in a formally vacant West Onondaga Street mansion. Mayor Walsh thanked Pathfinder for investing in a key neighborhood business corridor on the southwest side. As it creates a new branch, the bank is saving and restoring historic features inside and outside the building. Pathfinder expects to open in the first quarter of 2022.
HEALING A COMMUNITY. Mayor Ben Walsh joined the Ne HEALING A COMMUNITY. Mayor Ben Walsh joined the New York State Attorney General Leticia James and the regions elected leaders today to share how the region will begin healing from the harm of the opioid crisis. Attorney General Letitia James today began her statewide ‘HealNY’ tour of New York state, where she delivered the first of up to $1.5 billion dollars to the city and the county. The funds — which will go to all 10 regions of the state — come from different settlements Attorney General James has negotiated following a 2019 lawsuit against manufacturers and distributors responsible for the opioid crisis. The addiction crisis is bigger than just one city, said Mayor Walsh. It affects neighbors from every town and village across the region. This problem is bigger than one city or one demographic. “…we are ensuring every region and every county gets financial help to recover from the devastation that opioids have inflicted on them. The funds we’re infusing into New York today and going forward will be used towards combatting this epidemic with investments in prevention, treatment, and recovery,” said AG James. #healing #opioidcrisis

OK Syracuse, we all know it: #WinterIsComing. It’s a critical time to remind residents and businesses to get #HeatSmart about how we are heating (and cooling) our homes and businesses. Mayor Walsh joined the Alliance for a Green Economy to declare today Energy Efficiency Day as part of our commitment to support a nationwide network of energy efficiency groups and partners who contribute to our sustainability efforts. Energy efficiency is the cheapest, quickest, and cleanest way to meet our regions energy needs, avoid pollution, and reduce utility bills for residents and businesses. For cities and states like ours, it is a top priority. We are doing our part and we’re looking forward to helping residents and businesses do theirs as save in the process. A big thank you to Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board, Cornell Cooperative Extension, and PEACE, Inc. for the work they do providing energy efficiency and weatherization improvement programs to our region.
SYRACUSE WINS GRANT FOR ASPHALT ART Mayor Walsh an SYRACUSE WINS GRANT FOR ASPHALT ART Mayor Walsh announced Syracuse will receive a $25,000 grant for “asphalt art” from Bloomberg Philanthropies. We are one of only 26 U.S. cities to receive the award. The City will work with Adapt CNY and the Syracuse Public Art Commission to reimagine a paved parking area outside City Hall that was once a pedestrian plaza.
